FAMILY
CJ is a second generation Colorado native. Born in Wheat Ridge, CJ currently resides in the South Denver/Tech Center area with his wife Kristina of almost seven years and their dog, Patches. CJ is proud of his wife who is soon to be a college graduate and has served as a Senior Deputy with the Arapahoe County Sheriffs Office for over five years. Kristina is also a Colorado native.
CJ comes from a hard working, low income family that faced adverse times while he was growing up. CJ and his younger brother were raised by a single mother until CJ was six years old. He learned first hand the importance of family, hard work, and leading by example.
CJ's mother and step-father have lived very humble lives but have always provided for the needs of the family. CJ's parents have both been his greatest inspiration during his life successes and failures. They both currently reside in Lakewood, CO. CJ's mother is a mechanic/forklift operator and his step-father is a warehouse stocker, and he could not be more proud of them.
PROFESSIONAL
CJ has a diverse range of successful professional experience that he continues to pursue and develop. CJ has skills in the following areas:
* Police Officer - CJ is a Police Reserve Officer for the City of Manitou Springs where he has served the department since September 2006. CJ is trusted and charged with enforcing all federal and state laws as well as county and city ordinances within the city limits of Manitou Springs. CJ takes great pride in doing his part to keep the peace in Manitou Springs and has a direct impact on improving the quality of life for citizens and visitors of the city. Prior to Manitou, CJ worked as a Police Officer for the Red Rocks Police Department in Lakewood, CO where he received both a Chiefs and Captains Commendation for professionalism.
* Businessman - In addition to working for corporations large and small, CJ is also an entrepreneur. For two years, CJ served as the Chief Information Officer for a small, Denver-based dot com company called Help-Center. This was a company whose mission was to provide computer technical support for the average, non-tech savvy home user. Last year, CJ also started a small software development company Spilled, Inc. with some college friends. This company focuses on software creation of applications and games.
* Music Minister - CJ has been blessed to have been called to ministry, particularly in regards to music. For two years, CJ was the Director of Music Ministries at GracePoint Community Church in Littleton, CO. CJ was charged with oversight of the music ministry and the musical development of the adult choir. From September 2008 to December 2009, CJ served as Director of Choral Music at Corona Presbyterian Church in Denver where he directed the Sanctuary Choir and planned the Easter and Christmas Cantata services. Recently, CJ had the honor of conducting two movements of the Myers Requiem at the World Premiere at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Boulder, CO. This event raised nearly $7,000 for Habitat for Humanity.
* Community Volunteer - CJ has always taken great pride in his community and has had an active role as a volunteer. Back when he was a teenager, CJ's first volunteer experience was with the Lakewood Police Explorer Post where he assisted the Police Department in providing additional manpower for all of the citys major events. CJ has also logged countless hours volunteering for programs like 9 Cares/Colorado Shares, Habitat for Humanity, the Denver Rescue Mission, and AIDS Walk Colorado just to name a few. In addition to volutneering his time with community organizations, CJ has performed with community choral groups such as the Colorado Choir, the Colorado Mormon Chorale, and Opera Colorado.
EDUCATION
CJs educational background is as diverse and successful as his professional background. He enjoys learning and strives to better himself and his knowledge of the things that interest him.
Metropolitan State College of Denver - 2006 to Present
CJ, originally a Music Education major, is now earning his B.S. in Political Science with a minor in Music at the Metropolitan State College of Denver were he also serves as the Student Body Vice President and the Treasurer of the Auraria College Republicans. CJ is also the Chairman of the Student Affairs Board whose yearly task is to allocate nearly $3 million of student fees to various student programs. Additionally, CJs job as Vice President of the student government is to manage and balance their yearly budget of nearly $300,000.
In previous years, CJ has served as both President and Vice President of the Collegiate American Choral Directors Association (CACDA), Senator, Parliamentarian, and Chairman of the Rules and Ethics Committee in the Student Government Assembly, and on the colleges Background Check Review Committee where he offered his experience and expertise as a law enforcement officer with college faculty and administrators. The purpose of this committee was to review and recommend changes to the colleges policy on background checks for all employees.
CJ has also had the pleasure of performing in various musical theater productions at Metro State. CJ played Wizard/Professor Marvel in The Wizard of Oz, for which he was selected to represent Metro State and compete at the Rocky Mountain Theatre Association Regional Competition in Durango, CO in 2009. CJ was also the Tenor section leader in the Metro State Chorale the year they won a regional competition (consisting of Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas) of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and performed at their divisional conference in Kansas City, MO.
Upon graduating from Metro State, CJ hopes to attend law school or pursue his Masters degree in either Education or Choral Conducting.
Red Rocks Community College - 2003 to 2004
While serving as a Police Officer for the Red Rocks Police Department, CJ enrolled in courses to finish his Associates of Applied Sciences in Criminal Justice. In addition to being a student, CJ often assisted in teaching and training the students enrolled in the Red Rocks Police Academy.
While employed at Red Rocks, CJ specialized in crime prevention and attended statewide training for victim advocacy and trained to become a field training officer. As a student, CJ received a 4.0 GPA and was invited to become a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
As a police officer, CJ received high scores on his semi-annual evaluations and received both a Chiefs and Captains Commendation for professionalism during his tenure with the department.
Highlands Ranch Public Safety Training Institute - 2002 to 2003
Formerly the Colorado Sheriffs Training Institute, CJ chose this academy to attend as it offered the finest training in the state. Having successfully completed the POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) coursework, CJ graduated with excellent marks in Arrest Control, Firearms Qualifications, Law Enforcement Driving, Search and Seizure, and, his favorite subject, Colorado Revised Statues (C.R.S.).
As a student of HRPSTI, CJ also assisted in the repair and replacement of some of the Institutes computer systems which contained vital information and study guides for his classmates to utilize before taking their POST exams.
Colorado Christian University - 2002
Though CJ only attended here for one semester, he had a positive impact to the campus community and the music program. CJ, who only stopped attending due to a lack of financial assistance available, was a member of the Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) and was quickly recognized by some of the professors for his natural conducting ability. In addition to his academic studies, CJ performed solos with the University Choir and the Vocal Chamber Ensemble.
Westwood College of Technology - 1999 to 2000
CJ attended Westwood College where he majored in Computer Network Engineering. Prior to attending, CJ already had a vast knowledge of computers that he acquired primarily through self-instruction. Upon acceptance to Westwood, CJ quickly became recognized by his professors as highly skilled and knowledgeable. Many professors, some of whom CJ is friends with to this day, even allowed him to teach coursework to his fellow students as a peer. CJ was asked to join the team at Help-Center.com as their Chief Information Officer during his time at Westwood.
I wish to extend a congratulations to Bob Lane for running a good campaign and earning the Republican nomination for the General Election.

JPBarela.com - House District 9 Race
Opposing Lane says CJ is "...trying to do a psychological play on me" through a woman name Krista Erikson.
This statement is entirely false. As stated before, C. J. has never requested, sought after, or endorsed any person to make statements to or about his primary opponent. C. J. didn't know Ms. Erickson personally or professionally until the false accusation by Opposing Lane that triggered press inquiries. The only thing C. J. has given any attention as far as his primary opponent is concerned is addressing all of these false public statements. For C. J., this race is truly about the voters, walking door-to-door, making phone calls, and getting his positive message out there.
Opposing Lane says CJ abused his police powers to acquire his criminal record.
This statement is entirely false. C. J. has never used his police powers to obtain reports or records about his opponent. Such an act could be considered Second Degree Official Misconduct per Colorado Revised Statute (C.R.S. 18-8-405) and C. J. has always been a man committed to following and upholding the law. The records in question are all available to the public via the Court Records section of the City and County of Denver website. Furthermore, C. J. has never requested, sought after, or endorsed any person to make statements about Lane's personal life on C. J.'s behalf.
Opposing Lane says on his website that CJ "...would like more tax dollars to expand law enforcement."
This statement is entirely false. C. J. has never made any statements, public or private, that supports this idea. C. J. believes that a police force which focuses on crime prevention will empower citizens, foster public trust in law enforcement, reduce crime, reduce operating costs, and save money for tax payers. This will also increase property values, overall safety, and stronger communities. C. J. respectfully requests that Opposing Lane remove this from his website.
Opposing Lane says CJ "...is only running for college credit."
This statement is entirely false. Many of you contacted C. J. and informed him that Lane called you stating C. J. is only running for public office to earn six (6) college credits to graduate from college. C. J. is not receiving any college credit nor is this race about earning any academic recognition. C. J. is running because he believes Colorado is headed in the wrong direction. C. J. believes he is the strongest candidate and knows it is time for a man in office who will work for the people, not a politician who thinks the people work for him.
